Our Sacramental Preparation program at St. Peter Parish aims to deepen the relationship of love between
families and Jesus Christ, who desires to share His life with us through the Church and the channels of
grace by which He comes to us--the Sacraments. In the Diocese of Spokane, children who have reached the
age of reason (typically 2nd grade) prepare to receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation (Confession), Confirmation, and First Holy Communion during "SacPrep." This process, with Confirmation preceding
First Holy Communion, is known as the "restored order."
Classes occur on a semi-regular weekly basis. We typically offer two class time options -
Sundays between Masses (9:15 to 10:15 AM) or Monday evenings (6:30 to 7:30 PM).
The first 6 sessions will consist of preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation culminating in a
"mini-retreat" including reception of the Sacrament during Advent. After Christmas break we will have two
more multi-week preparation sections, one each for Confirmation and Eucharist.
Given the intense nature of the program and amount of content covered, it is helpful if children have
completed at least one year of prior religious education, either through a Catholic school or parish religious education program, prior to registration. Family support is also essential throughout the year, including
regular attendance at Sunday Mass and participation in the life of the Church at home.
For those older children and teens who only need to prepare for Confirmation, we can address that on a
case by case basis. Please contact program director Michelle Oresky ([email protected])
